City Day
2011 April 22
>>>
Earth Day was founded in 1970 (under the coordination of Citytank contributor Denis Hayes). Over the subsequent decades, it has become increasingly evident that most effective way to save the Earth is to make better cities.
When we make better cities, people win and the planet wins.
Therefore, I hereby proclaim the need to establish International City Day.
You heard it here first. Who’s with me?

Would have to be city by city to be inclusive… We all live on the planet, but not all of us in cities…
More germane would be:
o Population Day
o Consumption Day
o Ban Economic “Growth” Paradigms Day
o etc.
Dan: I vote yes. Earth Day is an important day of gratitude and recognition for mother earth, like Veteran’s Day… City Day would be more like Labor Day, or Independence Day – celebrating the power of an idea, movement, ambition, or principle… I like it.
no more worthless days that don’t mean anything. Look at Earth day, its supposed to be out protecting the planet and all that but then look how much money and natural materials are used up to hock earth day crap. Fuck people don’t even respect Veterans day, MLK day, or the vast majority of those days the way they should.
I am with you Dan. We can make it a “day on” not a day off. ask people to walk, bike, take transit, take in a show, eat fancy pastry, etc. everything people can do in a city.
